Towns

You know the moment. The piazza is doing its evening stroll. Shutters are half open. Someone's espresso is lasting longer than the bill. And you think: I could live a Tuesday here.
What you loved about that Italian town is more than a sweet memory. It's a house-hunt clue, and that feeling is exactly what we chase on Wandering with Wine. Come wander Italy with us: every Friday at 6pm ET on YouTube, Jaime and I share new houses for sale in Italy, followed by a deep dive into each home's town, its piazza, its streets and the little everyday rhythms that make it feel like home. Our live-chat premieres are where the W3 family gathers to dream out loud, so pour something yummy and join us.
If you're dreaming of an Italian home someday, the most useful thing you can do is name what you loved, so you'll recognize it later in a listing photo.
What wandering with us trains your eye to notice
After enough house wanders, you start seeing towns differently. You notice streets made for people, not just cars parked bumper to bumper. You look for a café or bar close enough to become a habit rather than a special occasion. You fall for texture, the stone, plaster, timber and shutters you'll still remember on a grey afternoon. You picture a lunch you can walk to without planning it like a trip, and a town that still feels like itself once the day-trippers have gone home.
None of that is a checklist. It's taste, and taste is what keeps you from falling for the first pretty facade and then feeling lonely in February.
Five questions to ask about a town crush
When we finish wandering a town, we come back to the same five questions:
Could you walk to the bakery, the pharmacy and the market, or would you need a car for everything?
Would you remember this street a year from now, or could it be anywhere?
Can you picture an ordinary Tuesday, or only a postcard afternoon?
Could you get here as often as you'd really want to?
Are there real homes woven into the life of the place, or is the charm a day trip with nowhere to stay?
A town that answers well isn't a verdict. It's telling you to keep looking in places like it.
A town crush vs. a house you can live in
Loving a piazza isn't the same as loving the first stone house with good light. Some of what you fell for is the town's job: the bar, the festival, the evening walk. Some of it has to live inside the house: the light, the stairs you'll still be climbing at 70, a kitchen you'll be happy to cook in.
That's the translation. If your non-negotiable is walking to dinner, a hilltop house down a car-only lane will disappoint you, no matter how beautiful the beams. If your non-negotiable is quiet and a terrace, an apartment right on the main square may wear you out. And a lovely home in the countryside outside town can be perfect, as long as you know you'll be driving in for that espresso.
Come share it in the live chat
Every house we share was on the market when its video was published, so treat each one as a picture of what a town can offer rather than a listing to chase. Tell us in the live chat what you love about a town, whether it's the piazza, the views or the café on the corner. The W3 family is wonderful at helping each other figure out what they're really looking for.
